I am heartbroken to learn of Mrs. Barrio's passing; my deepest condolences to her family. "BB", as I used to call her, was my 3rd grade teacher in 1982-83; to this day, she remains my favorite teacher. I kept in touch with her over the years, being sure to send her a card and letter each year at Christmas, and oftentimes her birthday too. I loved her vivacious spirit, her nurturing personality, her feisty moments; and her hugs were the best. Looking at the obituary photograph, I can feel her warmth speaking to me through her eyes; she exuded joy! She spoke so fondly and with such pride about her family, especially Yoly and Jaime. She was such a delight and the epitome of lovely. The world has lost one of it's kindest souls and heaven has welcomed a radiant angel. I wish I could be there on Saturday to say goodbye. You will always be in my heart, BB. With much love, Cathy

Dear Barrio Family,
I am so sorry to have read of your loss: please accept my sincere condolences. Something that I have personally found to be of great comfort are the thoughts expressed at John 5:28, 29 as well as Revelation 21:4. In these verses we find a wonderful hope for the future of being reunited with our loved ones upon the earth the way it was originally intended--free from sickness, suffering, and death. Knowing this has comforted me greatly and it is my sincere hope that these thoughts comfort your family as well. Again I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Yoli and Family,

I wish to express my sincere sympathy for you and your family. You and I went to Torrington High School together and I always thought you were a wonderful person. By reading all the loving comments about your Mother, I can see that you take after her. May the peace of the Lord be with her, you, and your family.

I worked with Yolanda at St. Francis School over 14 years. After losing my husband Paul, it was difficult to work there due to low pay. I lost track of her because I was teaching out of state, and I was raising 3 young sons. She would always smile at them and their energy.
I loved my job at SFS. She was always the center light. God bless you all. Support each other through this difficult time. Celebrate her life, as she celebrated hers. My sincerest condolences. Good night "Jolanda". Peace be with you.

I had the pleasure of being in Mrs. Barrio's third grade during her second year at St. Francis. What a great teacher! Yoly, Pablo, gato, plantains, Cuba, her "peoples," the Farm Shop... Whenever I would run into her somewhere many years later, she would tell people that I learned everything in third grade. When I began teaching at St. Francis 11 years ago, I had her old room, and I found her old Stations of the Cross in the cabinet! I hang them up every year and think of her with such fond memories. God bless Mrs. Barrio. My sincerest condolences to her family; she always spoke of her children with such pride.

Dear Yolanda's family: Yolanda was a volunteer at the front Desk at CHH. We worked well together. Her sense of humor, her temperament, her charm, her suggested improvements were all wonderful. She as a real pleasure to work with and an asset to the volunteer staff at Charlotte Hungerford. May God Bless.

Hello, I'd like to express my deepest condolences to your family. I was a student of Mrs. Barrio at St Francis in 1982. I remember what a fireball she was!!! I just adored her so much. I must say that I recall MANY STORIES about Jamie. Omg she talked nonstop about how beautiful & perfect of a grandaughter you were everyday. I recall adorable pictures on her desk of you too. Mrs. Barrio will forever be a very found memory of my childhood. God Bless you & your family. RIP Mrs. Barrio...Elizabeth

I had Mrs. Barrio as my third-grade teacher, and I've never forgotten her. She was one of my favorite teachers at St. Francis School. She was such an enthusiastic, loving teacher. I still remember how excited she would get when she was teaching. Her whole face lit up and she started talking really fast when she had something new to share. She always greeted you with a big smile each morning and made you feel special. I still have the pin in my box of treasures that she gave me 47 years ago for being an "A" student. It meant a lot to me. Much sympathy, Rachel Madeux Romano

I am so sorry for your loss. She was amazing!
She was my 3rd grade teacher in 1983 when I was a new student at St Francis having moved from out of the country. She made me feel so welcome and I had such a special bond with her and loved her so much! She was the best teacher I ever had and still think of her often.

Dear Barrio Family:
I am so sorry for your loss! Mrs Barrio was my third grade teacher. She was the type of teacher that believed every child learns differently and in their own time. (Back then many educators taught in a cookie cutter format.)
She was a vibrate, positive and happy- go- lucky person!
Years ago (after her first stroke) I was blessed to speak with her over the phone. I will miss her but not forget her, God Bless Sally and Thad Alexander

Mrs Barrios was my favorite teacher I ever had. She was fun, loving, caring but you never wanted to be on her bad side. She would give a look and start talking very fast with her accent. Lol
I loved when Jamie would come and visit us at the school. There were many Summers that we would get to have play dates with her. I am so sad for your loss. She was truly a great woman.
