I didn't really know Mike after 18, so ALL I have is great memories as us playing having fun, and of coarse getting into trouble!! Rest in PEACE

Michael will always be remembered by his uncle and cousins, Kurt, Kyle, and Kevin for the many times we visited the Shortreeds at their farm in Connecticut and spent camping at Cape Cod. There are many memories where they all played ball, sledded down the hill, hiked in the woods, and played other games together with Ruth and sometimes other children or other cousins who were visiting.

I write this this through tears, as I have known Michael all his life. Vivian is my "BFF" since we met in graduate school at Northwestern in 1959, and have shared each other's lives ever since. He was a truly beautiful baby, and people always stopped to admire him when Viv and I would push his buggy around the streets of Shorewood, a Milwaukee suburb. Then, when they moved to Conn. and Bill and I would visit, he loved listening to the bedtime stories I read to him and Ruth. The distance between the East Coast and Wis. meant I didn't see as much of him as he grew up, but we often spoke on the phone if he was at home when I called; and I always "kept up" on his life through Vivian. I loved him, and I will miss him; but his passing reminds me of the words of Henry Ward Beecher that someone sent to me when my husband died recently: "What the heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose." My own heart and thoughts are with Vivian, Ruth, Christine, and his extended family, who cared for him with loving patience throughout his not-so-easy life. With love and sympathy, Karen Prevetti Kersten

I am deeply saddened for your loss Aunt Vivian. I will always remember our family gatherings on N. Mill St. and the Shorteeds coming to Ft.Wayne. I will always remember Mike for his kindness and incredible memory when we reflected on those occasions. My thoughts and prayers pour out to you.

No loss of someone we knew and cared about is an easy one. The loss of a child is perhaps the most challenging. Mike had some good moments in his life. Those are worth remembering.
