Torrington- Andrew J. Pitonak, Jr., 90, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Valerie Manor, Torrington.
Mr. Pitonak was born in Torrington on August 22, 1926, son of the late Andrew J. Pitonak, Sr. and Mary (Demsky) Pitonak, and had been a lifelong city resident. He was a retired meat manager with Khoury’s Market, retiring with 40 years of service and a communicant of St. Thomas of Villanova Church, Goshen. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was active as a regional basketball player and fast pitch softball pitcher for many years. Andrew served as a regional basketball and soccer referee and softball umpire for nearly 50 years.
Survivors include a brother, Joseph J. Pitonak of Torrington, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Msgr. John Pitonak and Stephen Pitonak, and three sisters, Mary Walla, Rose Trivella, and Sister Marilyn Pitonak, SSCM.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 9:30a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 71 North St., Goshen, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30a.m. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Friday, October 28, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
