Victoria Roman Obituary

Torrington- Victoria V. Roman, 94, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 17, 2020 at her home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Martin P. Roman.

          Mrs. Roman was born in Torrington on January 14, 1926, daughter of the late Oclerio and Theresa (Fracassi) Moranino, and had been a lifelong city resident. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church of St. John Paul the Great Parish, Torrington. Mrs. Roman was a member of the Burrville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Sullivan Senior Center and was a volunteer at both the Warner Theater and Summerville Assisted Living. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, crafts, and was an avid reader.

          Survivors include two daughters, Roberta E. Shemms and her husband Robert of New Hartford and Jayne V. Roman of Torrington; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Roman; a brother, Orlando Moranino and his wife Rose of Torrington; four grandchildren, Robert Shemms, Jr., and his wife Brooke, Rebecca Pekrul and husband Bryan, Jeffrey Roman, and Michael Roman; four great-grandchildren, Grayson Shemms, Monroe Shemms, River Shemms, and Palmer Pekrul; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Roman was predeceased by her son, Mark P. Roman; a sister, Jacqueline Sesko and her husband Steve; and a brother, Frank Moranino and his wife Ann.

          The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Foothills VNA, Sullivan Senior Center Meals on Wheels, and Companions and Homemakers, for the wonderful kindness and care that was shown to Victoria.

          Graveside services in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington, will be private. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.

          At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Archdiocese of Hartford Office of Radio and Television, 15 Peach Orchard Rd., Prospect, CT 06712.
