Torrington- SallyAnn Scanlon, 79, passed away Friday, January 31, 2020 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington.
SallyAnn was born in Torrington on September 18, 1940, daughter of the late Joseph and Zita (Heffernan) Scanlon, and had been a lifelong city resident. She was a retired Telephone Operator with SNET, retiring with 30 years of service. SallyAnn also worked at New Opportunities, Inc, in Torrington for 15 years. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church of St. Paul the Great Parish, Torrington. SallyAnn was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Waterbury, the Torrington Lodge of Elks, the Columbiettes, the Veneta Club, and a was a member and past President of the former Emblem Club in Winsted. She was a former member and captain of the local neighborhood Crime Watch. SallyAnn loved cooking, hosting parties, traveling, writing letters to family and friends, watching the UCONN Huskies Girls Basketball, the Kentucky Derby, and her favorite TV shows.
Survivors include three daughters, Zita M. Bridges and her husband Charles of Phoenix, AZ, Patricia A. Chappell and her husband Randy of Lehi, UT, and Elizabeth E. Gabriele of Torrington; nine grandchildren, Aubrey Ramsdell, Moriah and Mikayla Bridges, Brandon, Cameron, Spencer, and Blake Chappell, and Bella and Maxx Gabriele; three great-grandchildren, Claire, Easton, and Emma Chappell; special cousins, Margaret Mary Metwally and her children Mark John and Natalia, and Edward Heffernan and Joy Barber and their families; and her dearest close friends, Rose Moscaritolo and Virginia Markt. SallyAnn was predeceased by an infant sister, Zita Scanlon.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 10:00a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Tuesday, February 4, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
