Rita D. (Smith) Roberts

Torrington- Rita D. Roberts, 92, passed away Friday, July 16, 2021, at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin Ashley Roberts.

        Mrs. Roberts was born in Torrington on June 14, 1929, daughter of the late Lester and Agnes (Maloney) Smith, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a faithful communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Rita lived a life of love for her family with integrity, generosity, and devotion to her faith. Charity was important to Rita and she contributed to special causes her entire life - living her quote - “we have so much and they have so little” as a lifelong calling.

        Survivors include two daughters, Ellie (Elaine) Roberts of West Glover, VT, and Sharon (Ashley) Roberts of Torrington; two sisters, Virginia Prasso and Elaine Thomas, both of Torrington; four grandchildren, Judith Maches, Johanna Maches, Kelly Rooney, and Meghan Ste. Marie; 11 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Jeanne Clapps of Torrington; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Mrs. Roberts was predeceased by a special nephew, Dean Prasso, and two special nieces, Holly M. Baron and Kimberly Pretak.

        A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 11:00a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
