Kenneth "Kenny" R. Dowd

Torrington- Kenneth “Kenny” R. Dowd, 74, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of 53 years of Diane (Hirchak) Dowd.

        ​Mr. Dowd was born in Torrington on February 22, 1946, son of the late Raymond H. and Anna E. (Obiedzinski) Dowd, and had been a lifelong city resident. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Era Veteran and had been stationed in Panama. Kenny was a retired Service Technician with the Patterson Oil Company, Torrington, retiring with over 45 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church of St. John Paul the Great Parish, Torrington, and was a former member of the Torrington Lodge of Elks. Mr. Dowd enjoyed music and playing the drums, having played the drums in the Top Shelf Orchestra for over 20 years. Family was more important than anything to Kenny and he will be remembered for his great devotion to his family. Despite battling several health issues in recent years, Ken proudly attended his granddaughters’ academic and athletic events.

        ​Survivors, in addition to his wife, Diane, include a son, Richard K. Dowd and his wife, Tanya; a daughter, Leanne Dowd, all of Torrington; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Cantu of Harwinton; a brother, James Dowd and his wife, Betty, of Torrington; three grandchildren, Ashley Dowd, Alyssa Dowd, and Kelsy McClain, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Dowd was predeceased by his siblings, Bernice Ugaglia, John “Jack” Dowd, Raymond Dowd, Janice Kelsey, Richard Dowd, and Marilyn Capra.

        Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 10:15a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Saturday morning from 9:00a.m. to 10:15a.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home. Those attending services are kindly asked to wear a mask and maintain social distancing guidelines.
