John "Jack" R. Dowd

Torrington- John “Jack” R. Dowd, 85, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of the late Gina G. (Leonardi) Dowd.

        Mr. Dowd was born in Torrington on August 26, 1934, son of the late Raymond and Anna (Obiedzinski) Dowd, and had been a lifelong city resident. He was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict Veteran. Jack had been employed as a General Manager with the Litco Supply Company, Torrington, for many years. He was a communicant of St. Peter Church of St. John Paul the Great Parish, Torrington. Jack was a member of the Torrington Lodge of Elks and had been a volunteer at the Warner Theater. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

        Survivors include his daughter, Jacqueline A. McNamara and her husband William of Torrington; two brothers, James D. Dowd and his wife Betty and Kenneth R. Dowd and his wife Diane, all of Torrington; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Cantu of Harwinton; two grandchildren, Angelo J. Alongi and Olivia R. Alongi; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Raymond Dowd; and three sisters, Bernice Ugaglia, Janice Kelsey, and Marilyn Capra.

        Graveside services with full Military Honors will be held Monday, August 17, 2020 at 11:00a.m. at New St. Francis Cemetery, 863 S. Main St., Torrington. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
