Joanna J. (Killiany) Arnista

Torrington- Joanna J. Arnista, 98, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Arnista.

        Mrs. Arnista was born in Torrington on May 24, 1924, daughter of the late Joseph and Joanna (Strawinski) Killiany, and had been a lifelong city resident. She was an active communicant for many years of the former St. Mary’s Church, Torrington, and currently attended St. Francis of Assisi Church. Mrs. Arnista was a member of the Polish National Alliance and was proud of her Polish heritage. She was a retired part time employee at the Insurance Center of Torrington and was a volunteer for many years with the Torrington Veterans Service Office.

        Survivors include four children, Col. Alexander J. Arnista, USAF Ret., and his wife, Gaylene of Burke, VA, Dr. Marian A. Arnista and her husband, Vincent Cleri, of Torrington, Carol A. Sisson and her husband, David, of West Haven, and Dr. Thomas M. Arnista and his wife, Amy, of Middletown; a sister, Anna Koplar of Torrington; six grandchildren, Ashley L. Coughlin and her husband, Lt. Col. Kevin, Joanna Sisson, Anthony Arnista, Jacqueline Rahaim and her husband, Dan, Charles Sisson, and Dr. Nicholas Arnista; two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Coughlin and Thomas Coughlin; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Arnista was predeceased by her sister, Antonia Koplar.

        Funeral services will be held Friday, August 19, 2022, at 12:00p.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00p.m. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
