Torrington-Elizabeth N. Tollar, 87, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Brookdale-Chatfield Assisted Living in West Hartford. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Tollar.
Elizabeth was born in Hungary on November 23, 1932. She had been a Torrington resident for many years. In her working days, Elizabeth worked in office administration for The Torrington Company and in artistic design for The Hitchcock Chair Company in Riverton. She was a longtime, active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Torrington.
Elizabeth loved dogs, especially her little dog, Edna. She was an avid gardener and treasured spending time outdoors tending to her flower gardens. Most of all, Elizabeth loved to bake. It brought her great joy to carry on the Hungarian tradition of making Christmas cookies, Hungarian kiffle and kolachi, and those lucky enough to know her well would often be treated to her baking delights when they visited at her home.
In addition to her husband, Joseph, Elizabeth was predeceased by her son, Joseph Tollar and her daughter, Ginger Teddick.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, with the Rev. G. Scott Cady, Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Book of Remembrance, 837 Charles St., Torrington, CT 06790.
