Torrington- Anthony “Tony” C. Lawrence, Sr., 93, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at West Hartford Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the beloved husband of Eileen L. (Carey) Lawrence.
Mr. Lawrence was born in Torrington on May 23, 1928, son of the late Arthur C. and Hilda M. (Sager) Lawrence, and had been a Torrington resident most of his life. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran and was a member of American Legion Post 38. Mr. Lawrence was a master mechanic, working for Michael J. Cozy in Waterbury and retired from Wasley-Crowley Buick in Bristol. He also worked tirelessly part time for 27 years at Stop & Shop in Torrington, a job and staff of peers he truly enjoyed. Along with Mr. Lawrence’s mechanical enthusiasm, he enjoyed coin collecting, carpentry, and making toys for kids in the children's hospital. Tony’s dedication to his wife of 71 years, and being a role model to his family will be deeply missed and eternally remembered. He will be fondly remembered as “Grampy” to all.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Eileen, include three sons, Anthony C. Lawrence, Jr., and his wife, Pauline, of Homosassa Springs, FL, Harold A. Lawrence and his wife, Kim, of Torrington, and David Lawrence and his wife, Mary, of Winsted; two daughters, Phyllis A. Grossetti and her husband, Joe, of Torrington, and Vicki Fantozzi and her husband, Jerry, of Franklin, NH; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Lawrence was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
Graveside services will be held in the Spring, on a date and time to be announced. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
