Harwinton- Robert I. Gaylord, 93, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Vera J. (Bozak) Gaylord.
Mr. Gaylord was born in Winsted on December 28, 1925, son of the late Irving and Katherine (Morris) Gaylord, and had been an East Canaan resident where he worked as a dairy farmer with his Dad for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired assistant lineman foreman with the Southern New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1987 with over 30 years of service. After retiring from SNET, he had been employed as a custodian at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for 8 years. Mr. Gaylord was a resident of Harwinton for 60 years, and an active communicant of his church and a member of the parish Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Waterbury Branch, a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, and enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing horseshoes. He was a loyal and avid sports fan, especially fond of his UConn teams.
Beloved by all who knew him, Bob Gaylord never met a stranger.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Vera, include two daughters, Denise L. Gaylord of Provincetown, MA, and Karen L. Gaylord of Torrington, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Gaylord was predeceased by a sister, Eileen Christinat.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 78 Litchfield Rd., Harwinton. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will greet friends at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Saturday morning from 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
