Katherine O'Brien

Harwinton- Katherine O’Brien, 79, died Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Valerie Manor, Torrington.

          The daughter of Peter and Josephine (Signorelli) O’Brien, she was born in Torrington on August 6, 1938. She attended local schools and graduated from Saint Joseph College in 1960 with a degree in history and political science. She pursued a career in education for nearly forty years, the final thirty in the West Hartford School System. Katherine retired in 1998 to care for her ailing mother.

          A longtime Harwinton resident, she was an EMT volunteer with the Harwinton Ambulance for several years, as well as a member of the Commission on Ageing.

          Katherine is survived by her brother, Peter O’Brien and his wife Theresa of Torrington, and nephews Kevin O’Brien and his wife Martha and Craig O’Brien and his wife Marisa and their young son Callan, all of Manchester.

          Katherine wishes to thank Dr. Christina Gomez of the Yale-Smilow Cancer Center for her strong support and thoughtful, compassionate care.

          A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 27, 2018 at 10:30a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 78 Litchfield Rd., Harwinton. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, will be private. There are no calling hours.
