Jean Humphrey Obituary

Canton- Jean Bahre Humphrey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully late on Sunday May 27, 2018. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Robert Wolcott Humphrey on April 12, 2012.

Throughout her life, Jean provided her family with a wonderful home, deep and abiding love and often-needed motherly advice. She welcomed her children’s many friends, and later their spouses, into her home whenever they needed a respite from their daily trials. Jean made every holiday a special time for immediate and extended family, and worked tirelessly throughout the years to host weekend cookouts and gatherings. She kept a meticulously beautiful yard, and loved to surround herself with flowers. Her favorites were pink roses, clematis, peonies, impatiens, geraniums and mums in the fall.

Jean loved stock car and horse racing, having part ownership in both a dirt track modified and a thoroughbred horse for a period of time during the 1980’s. She packed up the family each summer weekend for many years, taking them to auto races in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. These trips were wonderful family events, and kept us all very close to one another for decades.

Our Mom will be so sorely missed. We take solace in the knowledge that she is once again with Dad, her parents, and all of those family and friends whom she missed so badly, having gone on before her. We love you so much, Mom, and look forward to the day when we will be joyfully reunited.

She is survived by her children Michael Humphrey and his partner Laurel, Frances Tucker and her husband Dale, Jared Humphrey and his fiancé Pam, Curtis Humphrey and his wife Vicki, Cathy Barlow, Lowell Humphrey and his wife Terri. Jean also is survived by her former daughter-in-law and dear friend Melissa Humphrey, cherished brother Henry Bahre and his wife Sheila, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be private, at the discretion of the family.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123
