Salisbury- George E. Farnsworth died at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, CT on December 8, 2018.
George E. Farnsworth was born on May 6, 1930 to Russell and Rina Farnsworth in Millinocket, Maine. He graduated from Stearns High School in Millinocket and received a degree in history from the University of Maine at Orono.
He taught elementary grades in a one room school in Bremen, Maine and also taught at other schools in Maine and Connecticut.
He was a devoted husband and father. He was an experienced logger, a skillful woodworker, an accomplished cook, and a published writer of poetry and short stories.
He volunteered as a monitor for Connecticut Services for the Blind and Handicapped; served as a volunteer tutor of ESL for Literacy Volunteers; and served at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, CT as a volunteer where he led poetry and play readings and visited residents.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Hewitt Farnsworth, son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Margo Farnsworth of Oakham, MA, a brother , William Farnsworth of Middleton, WI, a sister, Mary Gillis of Bangor, ME, a sister-in-law, Joan Farnsworth of Skowhegan, ME and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Russell Farnsworth and Robert Farnsworth and a brother-in-law ,Charles Gillis.
At his request, there will be no service or memorial. Burial will be private. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
