Ethel A. (Sokol) Pennell

Torrington- Ethel A. Pennell, 86, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late Carlton J. Pennell, Sr.

        Mrs. Pennell was born in Torrington on June 18, 1931, daughter of the late Michael and Maria (Muntak) Sokol, and had been a city resident many years before moving to Great Island in Harpswell, Maine, 30 years ago. She was a retired employee with the Brunswick Corporation, retiring with 10 years of service. Mrs. Pennell was a former member of the First Assembly of God Church in Torrington, and a faithful member of the Nazarene Church on Great Island. She will be remembered as a loving mother, who helped anyone in need.

        Survivors include two sons, Carlton J. Pennell, Jr., and Gary A. Pennell and his wife Sarahjane, all of Torrington; a daughter-in-law, Liezl Sokol of Torrington; two sisters, Sue Fitzgerald and her husband William of Collinsville, and Lillian Dotson of Greeneville, TN; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas A. Sokol; two brothers, John Sokol and Michael Sokol; and two sisters, Mary Zucco and Mildred Hudson.

        Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 at 6pm at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Calling hours will be held Monday, Jan 1, 2018 from 4-6pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
