Antoinette "Toni" Landor Obituary

Torrington- Antoinette J. “Toni” Landor, 90, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas L. Landor.

Antoinette was born in Torrington on June 13, 1933, daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Matava) Zimmerman, and had been a lifelong resident of the area. She was a loving homemaker until widowed at the age of 45. She then reentered the workforce as a teller and worked her way up as a valuable member of the Marketing Department at First Federal Savings Bank of Torrington and Webster Bank. She was proud to have furthered her education and attended Northwestern Connecticut Community College.

Antoinette, a devout Catholic, was a communicant of St. John Paul the Great Parish, Torrington. She had been an active parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church, where she had served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Altar Society, and in her younger years, the Sodality and CYO.

Over the course of 55 years, Toni served as Financial Secretary, Treasurer and President of Wreath 86 of the Slovak Catholic Sokol Club. In fact, she met her husband, Thomas, at one of many picnics at Sokol Park. She’ll be fondly remembered for purchasing gifts for hundreds of children over the years at the annual Sokol Christmas party, using funds raised by members. She had a knack for knowing what toys each age group would enjoy.

Antoinette had also been a Brownie Leader, Girl Scout Leader and camp counselor at Camp Maria Pratt, using the nickname “Toni the Tiger.” She enjoyed reading, watching Hallmark movies and traveling (particularly with her sister) with Cape Cod holding a special place in her heart.

Toni considered her greatest achievement to be “my five girls, they were my life.” Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl A. Gruner and her partner, Kenneth Johnson, Karen M. Landor, Bernadette J. Rossi and her husband, Donald, all of Torrington, Sandra J. Gollenberg and her husband, Keith, of Naples, FL, and Mary Beth Baril and her partner, Chris Lambert, of Fort Worth, TX; her sister, Theresa Formaggioni of New Hartford; seven grandchildren, Peter Gruner, Scott Gruner and his wife, Melissa, Thomas Gollenberg and his wife, Irene, David Gollenberg, Matthew Baril, James Baril, and Catherine Rossi; three great-grandchildren, Kensey Gruner, Kody Gruner and Kolby Gruner; three step-grandchildren, Gianina Lambert, Isabella Lambert and Lucianna Lambert, and many nieces and nephews. Antoinette was predeceased by two brothers, Stephen Zimmermann and Paul Zimmerman.

Toni’s daughters would like to thank the ED and ICU departments of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for their respectful and compassionate care of their mother.
