Torrington- Walter S. Zawadzkas, Sr., 81, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of Sylvia (Todd) Zawadzkas.

        Mr. Zawadzkas was born in Torrington on October 11, 1936, son of the late Walter J. and Antoinette (Spadaford) Zawadzkas, and had been a lifelong city resident. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and was a retired supervisor with A-Squared Industries, a custodian at The Master’s School, West Simsbury and Forman School, Litchfield retiring with many years of service. Mr. Zawadzkas was a founding member of the Torrington Foursquare Church, and had served as church treasurer, organizational secretary, recorder, served on the church council, and was helpful in organizing the monthly communion service. He was an avid stamp and Torrington memorabilia collector, and enjoyed researching the history of Torrington. Mr. Zawadzkas loved aviation and built model airplanes to express his passion for it. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family, but he enjoyed autumn trips to Maine with his wife, Sylvia when he felt he needed time for the two of them. Mr. Zawadzkas was an avid cook and enjoyed creating meals for his family, and shared the recipes he loved with them.

        Survivors, in addition to his wife, Sylvia, include a son, Walter S. Zawadzkas, Jr., and his wife, Darlene of Solon, OH; four daughters, Kim Zawadzkas of Torrington, Cheryl Drewnowski and her husband Theodore of Enfield, Mary Todd of West Hartford, and Arlene Tardif and her husband Robert of North Granby; and nine grandchildren. Mr. Zawadzkas was predeceased by a brother, Robert Zawadzkas.

        Services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 6:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial will be private. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
