Shirley M. Sabolcik

Torrington- Shirley M. Sabolcik, 101, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Torrington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

        Mrs. Sabolcik was born in New Hartford on June 22, 1915, daughter of the late Howard and Mary (Hanrahan) Surdam, and had been a lifelong area resident. She was a retired factory employee with the Underwood Corporation. Mrs. Sabolcik enjoyed gardening, fishing, and animals, especially cats.

        Survivors include two daughters, Laura Bacca and her husband David, and Joyce Putnoki, all of Torrington; two granddaughters, Lisa Pipa and Michelle Pipa, both of Torrington; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Grace Pipa.

Mrs. Sabolcik was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Surdam, and a sister, Pearl Mercier.

        Funeral services and burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, were held privately. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
