Matthew S. Ashner

Burlington- Matthew S. Ashner, 39, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Bristol Hospital.

        Matthew was born in Torrington on September 26, 1978, son of Helen A. (McBurney) Ashner of New Hartford and the late Joseph M. Ashner, Sr. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy Science from the University of Connecticut in 2000, and a Masters Degree in Neuroscience from the University of Hartford in 2004. Matthew was employed as the manager of the Swimming Pool Store in Burlington. He was a sports fanatic, whose favorite teams included the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics. Matthew also enjoyed the outdoors, and spending time with his close friends from Londonderry, New Hampshire.

        Survivors, in addition to his mother, Helen, include a son, Samuel J. Ashner of New Hartford; a brother, James T. Ashner and his partner Danielle Wehunt of Marblehead, MA; and his maternal grandmother, Vivian (Thomas) McBurney of New Hartford; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins. Matthew was predeceased by a brother, Joseph “Joey” M. Ashner, Jr.

        Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 5:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial in Bakerville Cemetery, New Hartford, will take place in the Spring, at a date to be announced. Friends may call Saturday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
