Joyce A. (Durante) Powell

Winsted- Joyce A. Powell, 79, died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late John H. Powell.
       

        Mrs. Powell was born in Derby on August 11, 1936, daughter of the late Rev. William H.C. Durante and Clara Mae (Harvey) Durante, and had been an area resident for over 50 years. She was a retired nurse at Winsted Memorial Hospital, retiring with over 35 years of service. Joyce was a member of Workman Memorial AME Zion Church in Torrington. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed knitting, skiing, and was a master Scrabble player.
       

        Survivors include a son, John H. Powell, II, of Shirley, MA, two daughters; Kim A. Powell and her husband Clement Jaulin of Paris, France, and Teri L. Powell and her fiancée James M. Bounds of Winsted, one brother, Melburn Louis Durante and his wife Kathy of Torrington, one sister, Shirley Bostic of Ansonia, two grandchildren; Zacchary Powell and Ava Jaulin, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Jay Powell, four brothers; Rev. Willard Durant, Rev. Charles Durante, William Durante, and Marvin Durante, and one sister, Eleanor Adams.
       

        Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 12:30p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington.
