John J. Selmo

Torrington- John J. Selmo, 61, died Monday, October 10, 2016 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington.

John was born in Torrington on October 23, 1954, son of Benvenuta (DeMunari) Selmo of Torrington and the late Angelo Selmo, and had been a city resident most of his life. He was a graduate of St. Peter School and Oliver Wolcott High School. After graduating from technical high school, he went on to become a licensed electrician, employed by several area electrical contracting companies. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, was a mechanically gifted handyman, enjoyed reading newspapers, history(especially about the World Wars), and watching television and movies. John was devoted to his nieces, Emma and Laurel, whom he loved dearly.

        Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a sister, Barbara J. Selmo and her husband David H. Johnson of Arlington, MA, and two nieces, Emma Selmo-Johnson and Laurel Selmo-Johnson.

        Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 at 12:30p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Friday morning from 11:30a.m. to 12:30p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
