Jean M. (Liptak) Michaud

Harwinton - Jean M. Michaud passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, two days after celebrating her 85th birthday.  She was the beloved wife of the late Melvin J. Michaud.

        Jean was born in Torrington on March 31, 1934, daughter of the late John and Catherine (Gonchar) Liptak.  Raised on her family's dairy farm and a lifelong resident of Harwinton, she was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart School and also a member of Torrington High School Class of 1952.  A devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Jean was proud of her Slovak heritage.  She could always be found outside working in her yard and gardens.  She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

        Survivors include three daughters, Deborah Landau of Blairs, Va, Teresa Guerrini (Stephen), and Jacqueline Michaud-Heuschkel (Thomas), all of Torrington, a brother, Lt. Cdr. Richard Liptak of Charleston, SC, five grandchildren, Dustin Landau (Katie), Rachael Landau, Michael Guerrini, Erica Heuschkel, and Thomas Heuschkel, Jr.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Zaharek.

        A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 1st at 10:00 A M at Sacred Heart Church, 116 Grove St, Torrington.  Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington.  Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
