Torrington- Emma M. Cuozzo, 88, died Monday, June 13, 2016 at Valerie Manor, Torrington.

        Mrs. Cuozzo was born in Torrington on May 26, 1928, daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (McCann) Phelps, and had been a lifelong city resident. Mrs. Cuozzo was a communicant of St. Peter Church, and taught CCD at St. Peter School for many years. In her younger years she enjoyed music and loved to dance. Emma also loved sports, especially roller skating and bowling. Mrs. Cuozzo was always the #1 fan at her kids’ sporting events and was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She had been employed as a teacher’s aide for many years at Southwest School, and also worked at the Torrington Company. Emma loved spending time with her grandchildren, who called her “Grandma Keisha”.

        Survivors include five children, Denise Nowak of Winsted, Anthony Cuozzo of New Hartford, Mark Cuozzo and his wife BettyAnn of New Hartford, David Cuozzo of Torrington, and Joyce Lesieur and her partner David Britton of El Paso, TX; one sister, Pearl Wey and her husband John of Harwinton; seven grandchildren, Allyce, Michael, Ryan, Nikki, Lydia, Melanie, and Dani; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Hopkins, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Peter Nowak, and three brothers, Frederick, David, and William Phelps.

        The family would like to thank the staff at Valerie Manor for their care and support shown to Emma during her stay.

        Friends may call Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Funeral services will be held privately.
