Torrington- Anthony A. “Tony” Alexander, 94, died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of Petronella (Zelinskas) Alexander.
Mr. Alexander was born in Torrington on July 20, 1923, son of the late Martin and Elizabeth (Grustas) Alexander, and had been a lifelong city resident. He was a WWII U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, and was a retired serviceman with IBM, retiring with 32 years of service. Mr. Alexander was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years, a member of the Knights of Lithuania, and a member of the Sullivan Senior Center. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed traveling after his retirement. Mr. Alexander had spent 31 years volunteering with the American Cancer Society’s “Road to Recovery” program.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Petronella, include a nephew, Thomas Kenausis of Moncks Corner, SC; two nieces, Anne Kenausis and Barbara Kenausis, both of Waterbury; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Alexander was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Butan, Anna Kenausis, and Isabel Alexander.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:00a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30a.m. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Saturday morning from 9:00a.m. to 10:00a.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
